Featured Poetry Collection (2) - Riding a Lion by Coral Rumble

Whatcha recommending this week PJ?

Well, this week it’s everyone’s favourite type of underwater earthquake in literary form, Coral Rumble. Her 2020 collection Riding a Lion is always a goto on my bookshelf and is immensely popular in classrooms all over the UK. With delightful black & white illustrations from Emily Ford throughout, it’s a cracking read.

The collection breaks down into pieces about animals, the weather, getting out & about, family & friends and a whole section devoted to simply ‘being wordy’

Got a favourite Paul?

Obvs it’s this one. It’s ridiculous. And I’m very jealous I didn’t write it.

Yak in the Attic

I was searching in the attic

When I found a dusty yak it

Raced around the back it

Was scared and made a racket.

It hid, I couldn't track it,

It must have thought I'd whack it

Or simply try to stack it,

Or find a box and pack it.

Its fear was automatic,

When I found it, it stood static,

So I had a chance to vac it,

Which might seem a bit drastic.

But I never did attack it,

Or push or pull or smack it,

For I was really quite ecstatic -

To find a yak up in the attic!

Bits of info you might need if you’re trying to buy it/find it in the library
